MY STORY
As a child, I grew up captivated by the underwater world brought to life by Jacques Cousteau’s mesmerizing documentaries. Each dive into the ocean through his lens filled me with awe and a sense of wonder, but it was the hauntingly beautiful songs of whales that truly captured my heart. These deep, resonant calls seemed to echo the secrets of the ocean—a language of the vast blue world that humans could only dream of understanding.
Years later, this fascination took on a new dimension when I began volunteering with Orcasound four years ago. My work with this innovative platform, dedicated to the collection and sharing of real-time whale sounds, opened a gateway to a deeper connection with these majestic creatures. Listening to the vocalizations of orcas and other whales, I was struck by the intricate patterns of their songs, the repeating harmonies, and the rhythmic beauty that seemed to transcend the boundaries of science and art.
The turning point came when I discovered spectrograms, visual representations of whale sounds. These mesmerizing patterns of sound waves and vocalizations became an endless source of inspiration. Each curve and repetition spoke to me, inviting me to explore and interpret their beauty in a new way. I began to translate these sounds into visual art, creating abstract shapes and patterns that mimicked the spectrograms. Over time, I pushed my creative limits further, adding vibrant colors to these forms, sometimes in digital formats, to capture the emotional resonance I felt when listening to the songs.
Art and Advocacy: A Unified Mission
My dedication to environmental advocacy through art has grown alongside my creative journey. Beyond the canvas, I’ve become an active volunteer with several marine conservation organizations, including the American Cetacean Society, Orcasound.net, Sustainable Ocean Alliance, and BayQuest. Each of these organizations has deepened my understanding of marine life and strengthened my resolve to protect it.

Orcas are known to interact with kelp in unique ways, from using it for playful behavior to navigating their aquatic habitat.
Serenity Below - Watching a Humpback
This artwork pays tribute to Fran, the beloved humpback whale tragically lost to a ship strike in 2022. Fran, born in 2005 and celebrated as California’s most recognized humpback whale with 277 sightings recorded in the Happywhale database, was a frequent visitor to the Monterey Bay Area and a symbol of marine wonder.
